Ultrafiltration (UF)

Ultrafiltration (UF)

  • Ultrafiltration (UF)

Ultrafiltration is essentially a low-pressure filtration process, which results in low energy consumption. UF systems are primarily used for the treatment of drinking water and pre-treatment before reverse osmosis (RO) to remove turbidity, suspended solids, viruses, color, and some organic compounds. They are particularly effective in cases where water turbidity and SDI (Silt Density Index) are high and cannot be adequately reduced or removed by sand and micron filters alone, before entering RO membranes. Ultrafiltration is a membrane separation technology that utilizes semi-permeable membranes to separate solutions containing both useful and non-useful components. The driving forces for separation are pressure difference, flow-induced driving force, and membrane permeability. The asymmetric structure of UF membranes allows larger particles than the molecular weight of the membrane to be retained on the membrane surface, while smaller particles pass through the membrane structure.

.Filtration, purification, separation, and concentration of the solution occur as the concentration of the remaining substances on the membrane surface increases
UF membranes, particularly PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride) membranes, are a new type of membrane with a porous structure for separation, filtration, and concentration of substances. The inner diameter of the pores is approximately 0.7-0.8 mm, and the outer diameter ranges from 1.1 to 1.3 mm. The molecular weight of the separating agent ranges from 1,000 to 100,000 daltons, and the membrane structures are coated with epoxy resin coatings. In this method, colloids, proteins, pathogenic microorganisms, and large organic molecules are separated.. Additionally, this process can be utilized in purification, concentration, and separation operations
